The limited edition “Mosaic Collection” is complete!
Lomeda often gets teased because she never throws anything away. Where do you think all that “junk” in the steampunk elements came from? When we began cutting the corners off wood blanks, we threw them in a box under the band saw. That was about a year ago, so there were quite a few of these slivers. One night, we decided to pack them into various saved containers (from plastic spice bottles to bread crumb containers to the tubes our tools come in) and poured clear resin over them. We had no idea what would happen.
Other turners create segmented pieces by carefully gluing various woods together in geometric patterns. But we are so much less disciplined than that! This technique suits our creative sensibility and working style much better. Plus, we love the randomness of the mosaic-looking results.
Still, the quantity of raw materials was limited, and now it is all gone. We did manage to create quite a variety—small vases, lidded boxes, a meat tenderizer, a potpourri box, a very special bowl, and about 20 toppers.
